A very wide, very shallow city lot presented unique challenges for creating this urban retirement house. Privacy from the street, low maintenance materials, limited natural light, and an adjoining wooded public park were important characteristics to be considered. The interior features an efficient open plan, many custom built-ins, cathedral ceiling variations, special trim and molding details, a craftsman-style look, and features desirable with senior living.

A stately Dutch Colonial in need of renovation and more space in an
Ann Arbor historic neighborhood. The plan included a new two-story rear yard addition, new 3 car garage to match the house style, and interior freshening. Action House worked as consultant with knowledgeable "hands-on' clients throughout the work. Due to conditions dictated by the site, the old attached Garage addition from years ago was turned into a "Drive-Thru" Garage to allow access to new Garage at the rear of the house.

Client query: "Can we take this old, many times added to, partially concrete block summer home and turn it into something really special?"
Situated on an estate sized wooded parcel with wide frontage on Big Glen Lake, MI, sat an interesting challenge. By designing a new Lake Room/Dining Room/All-Season Porch on the lakeside, filling in an old basement access ramp to allow for new covered Entry Porch, and by totally face lifting the exterior, the client's expectations were met. Outside column details were emulated on the interior and a practical stone patio was appropriately located. |

A rural Midland County setting for this older ranch-style home was perfect for the client but their tastes and lifestyle desired a more formal touch. The existing dark brown brick was painted and a large addition including a new Master Suite, a new Family Entertaining Room, and an inviting and practical covered Entry Porch were incorporated. The existing interior was completely redone to be compatible with the major transformations. White walls throughout were a perfect background for their extensive European art collection. |
